Residential Crime Alert May 13, 2005


Home Invasions


Stoneyridge
, 5/7, 12:30 a.m.- 7:15 a.m. Complainant reported arriving home at 11:30 pm the previous evening and observing nothing unusual. Upon returning from taking his son to driver’s ed the next morning, he noticed the kitchen cupboard open and a box of rolled coins and a strong box that contained miscellaneous paperwork missing. He stated the pedestrian door that leads into the garage, and the door that leads from the garage into the house may have been left unlocked. No sign of forced entry.

Vandalisms

Wagon Wheel, 2950 Rochester, 5/5, 11:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Complainant reported her check engine light on her ’02 Buick Century came on after leaving location. When she attempted to put gas in, she discovered sand around the gas cap. She suspects an ex-boyfriend.

Athena, 5/7, 1:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. Complainant reported someone drove over and damaged his lawn for at least the 5th or 6th time.

Athens High, 4333 John R, 5/2 and 5/4, Complainant reported discovering her car doors keyed on her ’04 Pontiac that was parked in the lot during school hours.

Suspicious Incidents

550 Stephenson, 5/2, 1:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. Complainant reported finding the driver’s side front and rear tires had the air let out of them. She stated a similar incident involving all 4 tires occurred in Clawson a month ago.

Dequindre, 5/6, 4:54 p.m. – 5:56 p.m. Elderly complainant reported someone posing as an employee of the Water Department approached her and advised he needed to shut off the water for 10 minutes and he had a refund check for $46.00 for her. When she advised him she was calling police to check on his legitimacy, he told her he needed to get some parts from his truck. When she looked outside, he was gone. He is described as a W/M, 5’8, brown hair, thin build. She stated she was aware of such scams targeting the elderly, therefore called police.

Modernistic, 1460 Rankin, 5/8, 2:50 p.m. Officer noticed ’86 GMC van enter lot of closed business and drive behind building. It parked near a storage shed and dumpster. The driver exited and began examining some tires in the lot. Officer approached and spoke to driver, a 57 year old male from Clyde, Michigan who stated he was a scrapper and looking for discarded articles. He had some items in the vehicle, which appeared to be discarded from other sites. He is on parole for larceny. He had alcohol in the vehicle, which is a violation of probation. His Probation Officer was provided a copy of the incident. He was ticketed for driving on an expired license and released.

Costello Elementary School, 1333 Hamman, 5/10, 4:45 p.m. Complainant advised while picking up her child from after-school activity, a young male, approximately 20, who was driving a blue Ford Crown Victoria, asked her several questions, one of which was whether or not she was a mom. When she said yes, he replied she looked pretty good for a mom, and wished her happy Mother’s Day, before departing. The vehicle registers out of Macomb County.

Miscellaneous Incidents

Niagara near Pasadena, 5/8, 12:45 a.m. Officer heard several fireworks go off, then observed a Durango leaving the area at a high rate of speed. When it was stopped, the 17-year-old male driver from Sterling Hgts. was found in violation of his Level 2 Driver’s License and was so cited. He and his passengers admitted setting off the fireworks. Several packets of firecrackers and bottle rockets were confiscated.

Dumping Complaint, Milverton, 5/8-5/9 Complainant reported someone dumped an old dresser on his lawn. Garbage Company called; hauled away.

Assist Fire Dept., John R, 5/5, 1700-2015 hrs. Officers assisted FD at scene of a house fire. Cause appeared to be related to a phone charger.

Solicitor Complaints

Fredmoor, 5/5, 1:25 p.m. Officers located solicitors in response to complaint and warned against soliciting w/out a permit. A small, mechanical knife was confiscated from one 19-year-old male from Oklahoma.

Rouge Circle, 5/5, 6:25 p.m. Complainant reported two solicitors appeared at his door selling coupons. They handed him a form, which he filled out. They proceeded to tell him he owed them the money for the coupons. He told them he didn’t want them. They told him if he didn’t pay, they’d be back with the police. They told officers it was a misunderstanding. They were advised not to return to the property or they’d be arrested for trespassing. They did have permits to solicit.

Phone Calls/Harassment/ Peace Officer/Civil matters/ Welfare Checks:

Complainant reported receiving a call from unknown male asking to meet him. Complainant stated he responded he’d meet him at the Police Department. Complainant’s friend told him later that day that he had been assaulted by two males, one of whom took complainant’s phone number from him at time of assault.

Officers responded to call from female that a male was on the first floor of her residence that she did not recognize. Investigation revealed she is an Alzheimer’s patient and the male was her husband. She was assisted/reassured by officers.

Complainant on Norwich reported his neighbor has been calling him obscene names. He is concerned his young children will hear the language. He says it seems to occur each year around this time.

Officers responded to group home on Blair where 66-year-old female resident walked to another home on the street, believing that was her correct address. EMS evaluated her, and she was conveyed back to group home without incident.

Complainant reported receiving several calls from unknown male who would either hang-up or ask for her daughter. Officers spoke to complainant’s son, who advised he believes the caller is a friend of his cousin’s who is interested in his sister. Officers provided advise on resolution if complainant did not wish those attempts to continue.
