Troy Police Crime Alert

Athens High, 4333 John R, 11/10, 1045 hrs. A 15-year-old female student reported being assaulted while walking down the hall by another 15-year-old female student. Complainant stated she has no prior history with the suspect; she doesn’t know her.


Troy Beaumont ER, 44201 Dequindre, 11/60810-0230 hrs. Officers responded to three separate reports of victims of assaults seeking treatment for their various injuries. None occurred in Troy, and the appropriate PD’s were contacted.


DuPont Automotive, 950 Stephenson, 11/1, 1722 hrs. Complainant reported suspicious unoccupied ’02 Chrysler Voyager running in the lot for several hours. Officers discovered ignition punched. Vehicle was reported stolen earlier in Oak Park. (This was probably a “drop-car” when the car below was stolen)

DuPont Automotive, 950 Stephenson, 11/1, 1000-1230 hrs. Complainant reported his ’05 Dodge Durango stolen from the lot.

Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile, 11/1, 1500-1600 hrs. Complainant reported his ’03 Chevrolet Venture stolen from the lot.

Shurguard, 1315 Chicago, 8/29. Complainant reported male from Troy who rented a Budget Rental truck in August, failed to return it to their office in Columbus as agreed. He has not responded to certified mail attempting to locate him and recover the truck

Haley Stone, 720 E. Maple, 11/4-11/5, 1800-1130 hrs. Two Honda motorcycles stored beneath a tarp were stolen.

C and C Grinding, 1685 Austin, 11/8, 1927 hrs. Officers observed a ’90 Dodge Ram P/U enter the parking lot of a closed business. The P/U approached a trailer containing two snowmobiles that was being stored in a partially fenced-in lot behind the building. The driver and passenger exited the truck and after repositioning the P/U, hooked the trailer up, and drove off. A stop was made, and the driver claimed to be just taking the trailer to a near-by gas station to inflate its tires for the owner, who he represented was his friend. The tires were not in need of air and the driver was unable to provide the name of the owner/friend. The actual owner was contacted and advised she didn’t know the driver or passenger, and had gave no one permission to take her property. The 39-year-old male driver from Sterling Heights and his 30-year-old male passenger from Troy were arrested for UDAA.


Somerset Pontiac, 1850 W. Maple, 11/6, 2333 hrs. Security Officer observed suspicious silver GMC P/U driving in lot near an Envoy that had its wheels/tires stolen the night before. The vehicle left the lot and eventually parked behind the dealership in the rear lot of an adjoining business on Thorncroft Street. Officers watched as subjects dressed in dark clothing made several trips through a hole that was cut in the dealership fence line. Eventually the suspects were observed rolling tires/wheels from the dealership lot and placing them into the bed of the P/U. As the truck departed, it was stopped and the 40-year-old male driver from Troy, and his 29-year-old male passenger from Oak Park were arrested for Breaking and Entering a Storage Yard, Larceny from Auto, and Possession of Burglary Tools. A ’06 GMC Yukon parked in the dealership lot was found with all four wheels tires/missing. Several other new vehicles had the center wheel covers stolen. Recovered from the P/U were the 4 stolen wheels/tires from the Yukon, as well as 5 center wheel covers, 36 lug nuts, bolt cutters, a floor jack, lug wrenches, approximately $1500.00 in cash, as well as other tools.


Complainant received notice from a collection agency regarding an outstanding credit account opened using his personal information without his permission in 1987. The outstanding amount is in excess of $8100.00

Complainant from Suburban Nissan reported someone used a stolen check to purchase $300.75 worth of parts. A call to check owner, revealed she had two boxes of checks stolen from her mail in 1999 wherein the perpetrators passed approximately $7000.00 worth fraudulently.

Comp USA, 637 John R, 11/1 Complainant reported her purse was stolen from a store in Bloomfield Twp. on the afternoon of 11/1. She discovered her credit card was used to make several fraudulent purchases, including one at the Comp USA Store in Troy during the evening of 11/1.

Farmer Jack’s, 3125 John R, 11/1, 1000 hrs. Pharmacist reported female suspect presented a prescription in the name of another female for Vicodin. When he checked with the issuing physician, the doctor advised he had not issued the prescription. When advised, the suspect claimed she was just trying to get it filled for a friend and departed, leaving the prescription behind.

Complainant received a call from individual claiming to be a solicitor. During the conversation he requested the complainant’s account ID numbers from her personal checks. She terminated the conversation, recognizing the fraud attempt.

Leo Frank and Son’s Jewelers, 1158 E. Big Beaver, 7/18/05 Complainant reports suspect came in representing he had a $1 million jeweler insurance policy to make purchases, and filled out a credit application representing same. When a check he wrote bounced, complainant checked with the represented insurance company and was advised they only provide auto insurance. Credit application was filed under false pretenses.

Complainant discovered someone used her identity to open a credit card on-line, then made purchases totaling $1700.00 at Neiman Marcus. An attempt at a $2000.00 cash transfer was also made, but denied by the bank. The billing is to an address in Highland Park with which complainant has no knowledge.

Complainant from Royal Oak discovered credit card sent to his home was stolen and activated using his personal information. $900.00 in fraudulent charges was made. He stated family members told him his mother who lives in Troy stole, activated, and used the card.

Complainant reported requiring a fingerprint clearance for work. Results indicated an unknown female was somehow associated with his social security number.

Complainant reported discovering 12 unauthorized charges to his bank account totaling $391.76 since 10/12/05. 05-39020

Troy Engineering Department advised complainant that there was an individual impersonating him conducting land surveys in the area. Complainant is a licensed surveyor.

Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile, 11/4, 1912 hrs. Complainant reported she obtained cash from an ATM machine, then walked off, forgetting the card in the machine. When she got home, she discovered the card missing and contacted the bank. She discovered $334.00 worth of unauthorized charges made against it at a store inside the mall, a gas station in Troy, as well as two locations outside of Troy.

Complainant reported that when reviewing his accounts on-line he discovered an unauthorized withdrawal from his checking account, and three unauthorized cash withdrawals made against his three credit cards. The total taken was $1720.00. The monies appear to have all been sent via Western Union to an address in Missouri w/which the complainant has no knowledge/is not familiar.

Complainant reported that while reviewing his accounts on-line, he discovered an unauthorized payment made from his checking account for $108.00 to the City of Los Angeles Water Department, as well as another unauthorized $49.00 charge to an Internet company.

Complainant reported someone opened an unauthorized credit account in his name via Internet at Wal-Mart and charged $9136.00 in purchases against it. 7

Neiman Marcus, 2705 W. Big Beaver, 11/7, 1415 hrs. LPO reported suspect attempted to make a $392.20 purchase with a check that turned out to be counterfeit. When clerk ran check through the verification system, she was prompted to contact the check authorization company. At that point, the suspect departed, leaving the check and identification in the name of a 21-year-old female from Detroit behind. The bank confirmed the check was counterfeit.


Troy Officers responded to eight incidents involving family troubles/domestic disputes where investigation revealed no assaults or other crimes occurred, therefore no formal enforcement action taken/required.


S/B I-75 near Crooks, 11/2, 1445 hrs. Officer stopped ’94 Nissan Sentra driven by a 21-year-old male from Oak Park for speeding 86 mph in a 65 mph zone. Upon approaching the car, officer detected the smell of marijuana emanating from inside. A marijuana pipe and small amount of marijuana were discovered. The driver was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Narcotics Paraphernalia.

Livernois and Melanie, 11/2, 2107 hrs. Officers stopped a ’00 Chevy Impala for erratic driving. Upon approaching the vehicle, a baggie of marijuana was observed on the floor. It contained approximately 8 grams. The 18-year-old male driver from Troy was arrested for Possession of Marijuana. An additional 226 grams of marijuana was discovered in a large baggie in the trunk.

Dorchester and Golfview, 11/3, 1655 hrs. A ‘06 Dodge Charger stopped for speeding 42 mph in a 25 mph zone. Driver would only crack window when officer approached, however when he did, a strong odor of marijuana emanated from inside. Investigation lead to discovery of approximately 120 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle. The 23-year-old male driver from Southfield was arrested for Possession of Marijuana.

Red Roof, 2350 Rochester Ct., 11/3, 1100 hrs. Complainant reported receiving a card in the mail addressed to the hotel that contained 4 small packets of a white powdery substance. Inspection of the package indicated it was addressed to a room in the hotel. The powder tested positive as cocaine. Contact was eventually made with the occupant of that room who was a 50-year-old male from Philadelphia. He denied any knowledge of the drugs; explaining he hasn’t used cocaine in eight years. His room and car were searched w/negative results. He was directed by management to vacate the premises.

Oakland Mall Lot near Sears, 300 W. 14 Mile, 11/5, 1500 hrs. Officer observed suspicious 23-year-old female from Troy behind Sears. She was disoriented. The officer observed she had several new items of merchandise without bags that the price tags had been removed from. A Sear’s LPO recovered the sales tags from the merchandise inside Sear’s. Investigation revealed the items were from Hot Topic, a store in the mall, and had not been purchased. Approximately $160.00 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered from the suspect. Narcotics paraphernalia and at least one prescription medication that the suspect did not have a prescription for were recovered from suspect. She was arrested for Retail Fraud and Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia.


Fairways near Rochester, 11/5, 0236 hrs. Officers dispatched on report of ’04 Ford P/U on the roadway with the engine running, but not moving for over an hour. Officers discovered 31-year-old male from Birmingham passed out inside. After considerable efforts to arouse him, he responded, but could not get the door open. The officer opened the door and had him exit. Suspect had difficulty keeping his balance, holding onto the side of his vehicle to prevent himself from falling as he walked. He did not know what city he was in or where he was. When asked for his license, he provided a credit card. He smelled strongly of intoxicants. He could not recite the alphabet, then refused to participate in any additional sobriety tests, including taking a PBT. He was arrested for Drunk Driving. He blew .21 on a breath test.

N/B I-75 near Livernois, 11/6, 2010 hrs. Officers responded to report from cell phone caller that a ’96 Ford Thunderbird that had been driving erratically, lost control, crashed into the guardrail, spun out, and was trying to flee the scene of the crash. The vehicle exited the freeway at Big Beaver. Officers located it as it pulled into a nearby parking lot. It had significant damage along the driver’s side, a flat front passenger side tire, and the airbags had deployed. The 23-year-old male driver from Troy stumbled and lost his balance as he exited. He smelled strongly of intoxicants. He failed sobriety tests. He was arrested for Fleeing the Scene of a Crash and Drunk Driving. He blew .18 on a breath test. He sustained minor injuries in the crash. His 34-year-old male passenger from Clarkston sustained no injuries. He was released.


American Eagle, 612 W. 14 Mile, 10/28-11/3 LPO’s discovered the 23-year-old male assistant manager from Warren was conducting fraudulent returns by using customer names from a rewards program to generate the transactions. He had access to the registers to conduct transactions. No customers were compromised in the activities, as he was only using their names to make it appear the transactions were for legitimate customers. Total suspected of being embezzled is $3385.22. Suspect admitted actions and was terminated. Prosecution pending.

Marshall Field’s, 500 W. 14 Mile, 9/21-11/7 LPO’s reported female employee from Troy withdrew and stole $400.00 from various registers. When confronted, suspect also admitted to ringing fraudulent refunds to herself, as well as taking unpaid merchandise to her sister to ring up as a return for herself. Total amount of these transactions: $600.00. She was terminated; prosecution is pending.

Marshall Field’s, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 9/22-11/5 LPO’s reported 23-year-old female employee from Detroit placed three boxes of shoes with a total value of $319.00 into a shopping bag then placed it in package pick-up. She placed a package pick-up tag on the bag. She tried to claim and remove the merchandise at the end of her shift, however it wasn’t released to her because she had no receipt. Additional investigation revealed she was involved in fraudulent refunds totaling approximately $620.00. She was terminated; prosecution is pending.

Marshall Field’s, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 9/24 LPO reported suspect who provided a check and ID in the name of a 25-year-old female from Fenton made a $3647.40 check purchase using an account that did not have sufficient funds. The suspect did not respond to contact attempts to make it good. On 10/25 a male from Royal Oak made a cash refund on a $398.00 jacket from the above purchase. When he tried another refund on 10/26 for a $427.18 item from the above purchase, the cash refund was denied.


Wattles, 11/1-11/3, 1200-0000 hrs. Complainant reported someone broke into his home by forcing open a basement window. His girlfriend stated $8000.00 was missing from a box she was keeping in a backpack in the basement. No entry made into the main areas of the home, as basement door was locked. No other boxes in basement were disturbed, nor was anything else in the house. Girlfriend claimed she was the only person who knew about the money.

Rochester, 11/4-11/5, 2300-0630 hrs. Complainant reported he had a trailer parked in front of his garage, followed by his Dodge Caravan. It appears suspects entered unlocked Caravan and used the garage door opener to access the garage. They removed a Honda and Suzuki motorcycle from inside the garage, along with a Craftsman toolbox, loaded the items onto the trailer, then attached the trailer to their vehicle and drove off.

Salem, 11/3, 0100-0700 hrs. Complainant reported someone entered his unlocked/attached garage, removed the bed cover from his P/U and stole $2800.00 worth of golf equipment and golf clothing.

Willard, 11/10, 1000-1030 hrs. Complainant reported someone entered his attached garage via the open garage door and stole his snow thrower

(Attempt Home Invasion) Aster, 11/1-11/7 Complainant reports sometime last week someone tried to pry open his door wall. The lock-pin was damaged, and there were pry marks on the frame. No entry.


Larchwood, 9/13 Complainant reported attending an eviction hearing wherein court ordered tenant to surrender the keys to the residence in question. When complainant returned to the residence, he discovered the appliances missing.

Collins Aikman, 250 Stephenson, 10/31-11/1, 1615-0800 hrs. Two lap tops stolen from office cubicles.

REI, 766 E. Big Beaver, 11/1, 1216 hrs. Complainant reported suspect stole a merchandise cart from rear of business. He was last seen loading it into a light blue ’89 Dodge mini-van missing the passenger side mirror that registers to a 54 year old male from Troy. Suspect: W/M, late 40’s, grey hair, wearing a ball cap.

Clark Gas, 1602 Livernois, 10/31, 1233 hrs. Complainant reported driver of a newer black vehicle drove off without paying for $10.00 worth of gas. He is described as a B/M, 5’11.

Raybestos Automotive, 850 Stephenson, 11/2-11/3, 1800-0600 hrs. A laptop was stolen from locked office. No sign of force.

Cooldige, 11/3, 1630 hrs. Tree trimmer left in front of property for 20 minutes was stolen.

Marshall Fields, 500 w. 14 Mile, 11/4, 1900 hrs. A 17 year old female reported while she and her boyfriend were shopping, they were approached by a male that represented he was from South Africa and would give each of them $50.00 if they’d help him find a cab and hotel. He claimed a cab driver had just over-charged him $300.00 for a ride. The cab was supposed to drop him at a hotel, but dropped him at the mall instead. He showed them a letter from an attorney that indicated he was in the U.S. for some sort of litigation. He showed them a wad of money, which he claimed contained $10,000.00 and asked them to hold it while he picked up his luggage from the train station, because someone had tried to rob him earlier there. He advised them to wrap their money around his, so if something happened to his money, it would happen to theirs, as well. They gave him $30.00. He wrapped it around his, and then placed the wad in a bandana, which he returned to them to hold. When he never returned, they inspected the bandana and found nothing but cut up newspaper inside. Only description is a B/M.

Lorenzo, 11/3-11/4, 1800-0800 hrs. $3500.00 worth of scaffolding stolen from flat bed storage trailer. The chain that was used to secure it was cut. The wheels were stolen from a portable cement mixer. It appears after they were removed from the smaller mixer, they were attached to a larger/portable mixer, also on the site, allowing the suspects to steal it.

Harrington, 10/8-11/2 A 73-year-old female complainant from Troy reported discovering a necklace and two rings missing from her dresser. Total value: $20,500.00 No evidence of forced/unlawful entry into the residence. She reports family members are only ones who have access to the residence other than her.

Charrington, 10/29-11/4 Complainant reported allowing family members to reside with them who were suffering economic hardship. A digital camera and several items of jewelry were discovered missing from bedrooms. When complainants confronted subjects, they became defensive, immediately packed up their belongings and left. Unknown where they are currently staying.

Detroit Engineering, 560 Kirts, 11/8-11/9, 2000-0759 hrs. Laptop stolen from desk; no sign of forced entry into office.

Canterbury Square Apartments, Lovington and John R, 11/10, 1242 hrs.
A 28 year old female complainant from Troy reported she was approached by a male who represented he was a private contractor from Dish Network. He pointed out 4 satellite dishes and advised he was on site at the request of management to consolidate all the dishes into one unit. He took hers, connected the wires from her dish to her neighbor’s and departed. Management advised no such arrangement had been made. The dish is valued at $300.00 Suspect description: W/M, 5’9, medium build, light brown short hair, wearing a red and black jacket and blue jeans. Suspect Vehicle: Older model red Jeep Grand Cherokee.


Samuel, 11/2, 1800-1930 hrs. Unlocked ’00 Pontiac Grand Prix parked in drive entered, rummaged, and remote control from in-dash DVD stolen.

W. South Blvd., 11/4-11/5, 2100-0545 hrs. Chevy Monte Carlo parked in drive had driver’s side window broken out and a case of CD’s along w/$15.00 in cash stolen.

W. South Blvd., 11/5, 2300-0500 hrs. Honda Pilot had passenger side front window smashed and $60.00 cash, credit cards, and driver’s license stolen from inside. Chevy Impala had driver’s side front window smashed; nothing taken. Both cars parked in drive.

Nordstrom, 2850 W. Big Beaver, 11/8, 2030-2114 hrs. A ’02 Chevy Monte Carlo had passenger side window smashed out and a bag stolen that from outside appeared to be a purse, but was actually a make-up kit.

Nicklaus, 11/4, 0247 hrs. Driver’s side rear window smashed out of Dodge Neon parked in drive. Complainant and his mother were awakened by the sound of shattering glass, and observed two males running from the scene. Complainant’s mother pursued in her vehicle and eventually located a blue ’95 Chevy Blazer driving through the sub. As officers arrived, she pointed it out as a possible suspect vehicle, and it was stopped. It was driven by a 22-year-old female from Utica, and occupied by a 19 year old male from Utica and another 17-year-old male from Sterling Heights. All three gave conflicting stories as to what they had been doing in the sub. Nothing was discovered inside their vehicle, and they were released. A box speaker and the faceplate to the radio, as well as an Xbox and game, and audio amplifier were stolen from the Neon. The Xbox and speaker were recovered by officers on a nearby street. The Neon’s battery cables were cut, a tire flattened, and the interior damaged, as well.


Enterprise Rental, 2855 W. Maple, 11/2-11/3, 1800-0700 hrs. A ’06 Cadillac parked in rear lot found on blocks with all 4 tires/wheels stolen.

Somerset Pontiac, 1850 W. Maple, 11/5-11/6, 1800-0424 hrs. A ’06 GMC Envoy parked in N/W lot found up on a jack with all four tires and wheels stolen.

Norton, 11/5, 0500-0845 hrs. Rear passenger side window smashed out of Chevy Trail Blazer and two cartons of cigarettes and $25.00 in cash stolen


Woodside, 11/5, 1955 hrs. Complainant heard a rock strike and shatter the rear driver’s side window on her Lexus as she drove down the street. A 17-year-old male was observed walking behind the vehicle at the time. He denied involvement, claiming he was just walking by after finishing playing basketball in the area.

100 W. Big Beaver, 11/5-11/6, 2000-0100 hrs Front passenger side window smashed out of a Kia Rio parked in the lot. Nothing taken.

Premier Reality, 560 Kirts, 11/3-11/4, 2000-0700 hrs. Metal and glass entry door had frame bent and glass broken. No entry.

Somerset Mall, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 11/5, 1515 hrs. A 31-year-old female complainant from Detroit stated she pulled into a space in the lot, apparently ahead of a silver Chevy Monte Carlo. The female driver of the Chevy, described as a 40-year-old B/F, 5’5, 160, rolled her window down and began yelling at her. The passenger, described as a 30 year old B/F, 5’10, 180 exited and approached her vehicle, screaming. Complainant exited her vehicle, walked away, and went shopping. When she returned she discovered her gas cap on the ground and a pen, as well as several pins stuck inside the gas cap compartment; she fears additional items were deposited inside the tank of her ’95 Chrysler

Highbury, 11/8, 0001-0800 hrs. ’92 Pontiac had driver’s side window broken out; nothing missing.

Athens High, 4333 John R, 11/8, 0630-1430 hrs. Complaint reported her ’01 Pontiac was keyed all over while parked in the lot.

Samuel, 11/10, 1830-2040 hrs. A ’05 Dodge Caravan parked in street had passenger side window smashed out; scratches and dents inflicted along the entire passenger side. A rock was found lying on the ground next to it.

Academy, 11/9-11/10, 2230-0715 hrs. Complainant reported someone threw a pumpkin at her ’05 Dodge Ram P/U while it was parked in the street, which broke the rear window.


Chatham, 11/6, 0310 hrs. Officers responded to noise complaint. Upon arrival several persons were observed running through the neighborhood, being loud. Officers tried to stop and speak with them regarding the complaint, however they ran into a nearby home. Initially the occupants refused to answer the door, directing officers to get a search warrant. Eventually, the 24-year-old male resident answered and advised he was hosting an “after party.” 20 other subjects were present, all were over 21. He was issued a noise violation.


Complainant reported sister-in-law who had resided with her is harassing her via phone about picking up her belongings. To avoid a confrontation, complainant placed subject’s property in driveway. Officers contacted subject and advised they would stand-by while she recovered her things. Subject demanded complainant return a ring that belonged to her grandmother, as well. Complainant agreed to give ring to officers who turned it over to subject at the station. 05-38663

Troy Beaumont Hospital, 44201 Dequindre, 11/5-11/6, 0900-2200 hrs.
A 47-year-old female complainant from Sterling Heights came to the station to report that her husband passed away in the hospital on 11/7. She discovered approximately $3000.00 worth of jewelry was removed from his person. She stated her brother-in-law advised her that he had taken possession of the jewelry, because his brother wanted him to have it after his death. Referred to civil court.

Architectural Stone International, 2033 Austin. Complainant reported his company stored $37,600.00 worth of building supplies at this location. He went to the location on 11/9 and was advised the company went into receivership a year ago and that his supplies were taken by a creditor during seizure


Baccarat, 2801 W. Big Beaver, 11/1, 1215-1330 hrs. Complainant reported receiving six calls wherein male suspect made inquiries regarding the types of undergarments being worn by employees.

Complainant reported ex-boyfriend continues to harass her by phone, as well as by showing up at her business. PPO procedures explained.


CVS, 2045 W. South Blvd., 11/2, 1830 hrs. Complainant observed suspect push a shopping cart of beer out the store without paying. Complainant last observed suspect driving off in a ’05 GMC Yukon that registers to a company out of Pontiac. Suspect described as a W/M, 40, 5’10, 165. Total stolen: $63.00.

Marshall field’s, 500 W. 14 Mile, 10/7, 1630 hrs. LPO came to station to report observing suspect enter the store, conceal a $79.00 pair of jeans in a shopping bag, then exit without paying before she could be stopped. Apparently the same suspect was involved in a retail fraud at another Marshal Field’s store in the area, which lead to her positive identification in the Troy case. She is a 29-year-old female from Grand Blanc. Investigation continues.

Louis Vuitton, 2901 W. Big Beaver, 1815-1830 hrs. Clerk reported going into the rear room for several minutes. Upon returning to the sales floor, she discovered a $1200.00 Louis Vuitton purse that had been on a display rack stolen.


1400 Rochester, 11/3, 1040 hrs. Complainant reported suspect in a prior scrap metal theft was inside the business inquiring about scrap metal. A truck and trailer to which suspect fled when advised police were enroute, was seen cruising the lots behind the business while he was inside. Suspect: U/M, 37, 5’10, 173. Vehicle: White ’04 Ford F250 P/U w/a dual rear axle trailer. Plate registers to 37-year-old male from Sterling Heights.

Ancor Co., 1911 Woodslee, 10/25, 2200 hrs. Complainant reported computer system compromised by suspect who issued commands to the system to shut off computers, disrupting business.

Roseglen, 11/4, 1858 hrs. Complainant heard a noise on her deck, and when she looked, observed four males flee on foot. Area checked w/negative results. Nothing disturbed.

920 John R, 11/10, 0954 hrs. A 68 year old male resident moved out on 11/9 to go live with his daughter in Washington. When building maintenance entered the apartment to clean, they discovered what appeared to be an authentic hand grenade lying on the kitchen counter. Several adjacent floors were evacuated. The MSP Bomb Squad arrived and took custody of the grenade without incident.


S/B I-75 near Rochester, 11/3, 1735 hrs. A 28 year old female complainant from Madison Heights stated she was trying to change lanes from the left to the center, when the driver of the vehicle in the right lane made a similar attempt to move into the center lane. He ended up behind her, apparently angry and believing she had cut him off. He proceeded to pull up next to her and swerved into the driver’s side quarter panel of her Cherokee, causing several minor scratches before he fled. His vehicle is a silver ’05 Jeep that registers to a 30-year-old male from Canton.

S/B I-75 exit to W/B Big Beaver, 11/9, 1650 hrs. A 39 year old female complainant from Holly reported she was stopped in her ’05 Chevy Uplander at the red light when suspect approached from the rear, stopping right on her bumper. She stated she “tapped her brakes” to make him aware of how close he was. He proceeded to move his ’99 Ford Van against the rear of her car and began pushing her several feet forward while she held her foot on the brake. There was no damage. Suspect vehicle is registered to a 59-year-old male from Clawson who matches the description of the suspect driver.


US Post Office, 2360 and 2364 Bellingham, 10/27-10/28, 1700-0600 hrs. Outside walls of building painted with graffiti.


Troy Officers responded to four incidents involving individuals experiencing emotional/psychological difficulties and assisted w/transport to the hospital for evaluation/commitment.

Complainant was concerned about his 43-year-old sister’s drinking. He stated she is on probation for drunk driving and isn’t supposed to be consuming alcohol. Officers contacted her. She blew .11 on a PBT. Her probation officer was advised. Complainant was advised, at her request, not to return to her residence or she would press charges for trespassing.

Walmart, 2001 W. Maple, 11/4, 1140-1200 hrs.
Complainant observed 2 year old female child left sleeping in unattended/locked car in parking lot. She reported approximately 20 minutes after she first noticed the child; a female exited the store, retrieved the child, and then went back inside. Officers located the 31-year-old female from Ferndale with her child in the Subway inside Walmart. The mother initially claimed the child was left in the car for less than one minute, but eventually admitted it may have been longer. She was briefed on child safety issues.

Hollywood Market, 2670 W. maple, 11/10, 1800 hrs.
Store reps called concerned that 77-year-old male from Troy trying to buy wine may be drunk. Officers spoke to him, he was disoriented. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and his daughter was contacted/advised.



The City of Troy Police Department is pleased to announce receiving a $1000.00 grant from Wal-Mart for our continued prevention and education efforts in this community. Wal-Mart provides these grants under their Safe Neighborhood Heroes Program. A similar grant was received earlier in the year from Wal-Mart. Those funds were used to assist with costs associated with a Summer Camp Program co-sponsored with the Troy Community Coalition. That program provides an all day education, recreation, and prevention program to area youth who might otherwise be unsupervised during summer school recess. The most recent grant will be used in conjunction with a series of starter sports programs the Troy Police Department will host for youngsters. The programs, entitled Troy Police Athletic Clinics, will provide entry-level instruction to younger kids in soccer, T-ball, basketball, and volleyball. Inherent in these clinics, along side instruction in the various sports involved, will be responsible life choices, healthy living, and prevention and education presentations by experts in those areas. The clinics will be modeled after the successful Hockey Clinics hosted by the Police Department last summer. The Troy Police Department wishes to both thank and acknowledge the ongoing efforts of Wal-Mart to support quality of life issues in this community.


Office Parking Lot Robberies Cleared:

A suspect has been identified and arrested in conjunction with the Unarmed Robbery that occurred on 9/9/05 at 5700 Crooks outlined below. (05-31918) The Warren Police Department stopped and arrested the suspect shortly after he robbed a female in an office parking lot in their town at gunpoint on 9/16/05. Troy Detectives were able to utilize information from Warren PD’s arrest to positively identify that suspect as responsible for the Unarmed Robbery incident in Troy. He is also the suspect responsible party for the Attempt Armed Robbery/Felonious Assault that occurred on 9/12/05 at 4600 Investment in Troy, however has not been charged in that case. On 10/26/05, Lewis Halliburton Jr., 49 years old, from Southfield was arraigned in 52-4 District Court in Troy before Judge Drury on one count of Unarmed Robbery in conjunction with the 9/9/05 incident. Halliburton stood mute and was given a $100,000.00 bond/no 10%. His Exam is scheduled in 52-4 District Court in Troy in front of Judge Drury on 11/10/05 at 8:30 a.m. Unarmed Robbery is a 15 year felony.

Unarmed Robbery, 5700 Crooks, 9/9, 0800 hrs. Female victim walking through east lot was approached by suspect in a dark colored SUV or van. He demanded her purse, exited his vehicle, and pulled it off her arm. He re-entered the vehicle and fled towards Crooks Rd. He is described as a B/M, 30-35 years, 5’10, 165, black short hair, brown eyes with glasses (light colored frames), blue shirt, clean shaven, thin face. A composite is available.

Clark Gas Station Armed Robber Arrested

A suspect has been identified and arrested in connection with the Armed Robbery that occurred at the Clark Gas Station located at 1602 Livernois on 10/3/05 outlined below. (05-35000) Troy detectives put out suspect and vehicle information over the Law Enforcement Information Network, along with a composite image of the suspect. A Royal Oak Police Officer observed a vehicle and subject matching the description from that broadcast acting suspiciously in the area of a gas station in Royal Oak. He stopped and identified the suspect. Based on the information provided by the Royal Oak Officer from that stop, Troy Detectives were able to develop information that lead to the positive identification of that subject as the responsible suspect in the Troy Armed Robbery. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office authorized an Arrest Warrant charging Mark Stevens Scott, 51 years old from Royal Oak with Armed Robbery. Troy Detectives located and arrested Scott at his residence in Royal Oak without incident on 10/28/05. He was arraigned before Oakland County Circuit Court Magistrate Soma on 10/29/05. A not guilty plea was entered. He received a $50,000 bond/no 10%. His Exam is scheduled in 52-4 District Court in Troy before Judge Bolle on 11/7/05 at 8:30 a.m.

Clark Gas Station, 1602 Livernois, 10/3, 2200 hrs. Complainant reported suspect parked his car near the pumps, entered the store and ordered her to give him the money from the cash register. He implied he had a gun in his front jacket pocket. When she complied, he ordered her into the back office while he made his escape. Description: Suspect: B/M, early to mid 40’s, 6’2, 180 lbs., salt and pepper beard, wearing a black spring type “Members Only” zipper jacket, and dark gray or blue jeans. Vehicle: Brown, older model, boxy sedan, possibly a Chrysler LeBaron. A composite sketch is available.

Utility Fraud Suspect Arraigned

DTE Energy Fraud Investigators received an anonymous call regarding a residence on Fredmoor claiming the homeowner was diverting electricity and water around the meters. DTE conducted a usage study, which revealed significant disparities in energy usage/bills at the residence when compared to similar properties in the area. The Troy Water Department conducted a similar study and found the same low usage/billing pattern. The Oakland County Prosecutor authorized a search warrant, which was sworn to in 52-4 District Court. Investigators excavated an area outside the home and discovered a “cheater water line” wherein only a portion of water entering the premises was flowing through the meter. The remainder was diverted around it. Similar “cheater electrical lines” were discovered when the roof overhang was dissembled where the electrical connection entered the house. Two lines were diverted around the meter. A third was connected to the meter, but powered only a small portion of the house. Losses to DTE are estimated at approximately $45,000. The Water Department is still working on a loss estimate. Arrest warrants were authorized by the prosecutor and sworn to in 52-4 District court charging the homeowner, 67 year old Ronald Albert Marquardt with two felony charges of Public Utility Fraud. Each is a 4-year felony with up to a $5000.00 fine. The statutes allow the utility companies to recover the costs of the stolen energy/water. Mr. Marquardt turned himself in on the warrant, was arraigned before Magistrate Waldman in 52-4 Court on 11-1-05. He received a $5000.00 personal bond. His exam is set for 11-17-05 in front of Judge Drury at 8:30 a.m.

State Representative John Garfield Arraigned on Drunk Driving Charge

Troy Traffic Investigators received toxicology reports from MSP Crime Lab that were submitted in conjunction with a traffic incident, which occurred in Troy on 9-15-05 at 7:15 p.m. The incident began at Maplelawn and Crooks, when the ’05 Mustang Garfield was driving slid into a ’05 Jaguar stopped at a red light. Both drivers exited their respective cars, inspected for damage, and agreed it was negligible, therefore no report needed. As the Mustang drove off, the Jaguar driver observed erratic driving and suspected the driver was drunk. He phoned his observations into Troy Dispatch via his cell. Troy Dispatch broadcast the information by radio and computer. Oakland County Sheriff Deputies discovered the Mustang in the driveway of Garfield’s residence in Rochester Hills. He appeared intoxicated and in need of medical assistance, so was transported to the hospital. OCSD obtained a search warrant for his blood. The case was TOT Troy PD, as it began here. Toxicology results reveled a blood alcohol level of .23. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a request for warrant charging Drunk Driving. The warrant was sworn to in 52-4 District Court in Troy before Judge Drury. Mr. Garfield turned himself in on the warrant accompanied by his attorney and was arraigned before Judge Drury on 11-4-05. He received a $1000.00 personal bond, with conditions prohibiting alcohol and drug use, as well as random screening.

The Troy Community Coalition for the Prevention of Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Abuse is hosting a free clinic beginning February 2, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at the Troy Community Center. The program is scheduled for 7 days, February 2, February 6-10, and February 13. It will be hosted by Dr. Arthur Weaver, who will present his highly successful “Breath Free” seminar to help individuals stop smoking. Dr. Weaver is emeritus professor of surgery, Wayne State University. His practice involved cancer surgery, as well as teaching surgery residents at the university. He is a recognized leading anti-smoking crusader in the Detroit area, and over the past 30 years has conducted hundreds of smoking cessation programs.
